Battlefield 3: How To Unlock Assignments

Battlefield 3′s DLC is almost upon us – unless you own a PS3 – and as you may have heard, it brings a new way of unlocking the new weapons in Battlefield 3. Assignments are being implemented and bellow you will find the full list and details in how you can unlock all ten Back to Karkand weapons. Now I have to say that I’m not a fan of this kind of unlocks and strongly believe that unlocks should stay the way they were. Still, DICE’s attempts to offer something new to the table are noted. Battlefield 3: How to turn Tactical/Laser light off

battlefield 3, tactical light

We all see most players have the tactical light attachment and your own team members annoy you when they shine it in your face but they don´t know you can turn it off.
For example in Operation Metro, it´s close quarters and some long distance runs.
If you don´t want your enemy to see you on the long runs, for such as up in the Ticket Hall.

To Toggle your Tactical Light or your Laser Sight off:

Ps3 User You toggle it off by pressing the up-arrow.

Xbox 360 User You toggle it off by pressing up on the D pad.

Pc User You toggle it by pressing the T button on your keyboard

This way it´s harder for them to see you, since they wont see a light running around.
The tactical light is mostly just good in close quarters, so when you get in one... you turn it back on before you scoop in a corridor or something.

The above method works the same for the laser sight

Battlefield 3: Upcoming Patch Details, Tactical Light, Jets, Choppers, and Weapon Recoil Explained

battlefield 3, blog, patch, bf3

Information below has recently surfaced regarding aspects of Battlefield 3 that DICE is looking into patching. Our friends over at Don’t Revive Me Bro were lucky enough to sit down with Battlefield 3′s Senior Gameplay Designer, Alan Kertz in their latest community podcast and talk about some of the things the DICE team is looking into.

Many PS3 fans have been voicing their concern over what seems to be a controller input lag issue and are asking why the controls were changed since the Beta. According to Kertz, the controls for Battlefield 3 are fine and have not been changed since the Beta. DICE is finding that other issues may be at work here. For example, certain TV set ups seem to affect input lag more than others. Kertz assured us that DICE is looking into the real source of the problem.

Kertz also mentioned that DICE is looking into the mobile AA vehicles. Currently, they prove to be extremely effective against jets and helis not because of their damage output, but because of their effects. Many fans find that these mobile AAs are too effective at knocking a jet’s or heli’s flight path off course, or making them too hard to control, causing them to crash easily.

On the subject of Jets, Kertz also mentioned that there were some Balance issues that still needed looking into. As it stands, if a tank, for example, is disabled, the driver has the ability to either hop out and repair if he is an engineer, or have a teammate repair his tank for him. Engineers can also repair disabled helicopters from the inside or if none are available, it’s still possible land and request repairs. This is obviously not an option in a jet. Landing them is still somewhat possible but usually proves to be fatal. Kertz admitted that this seems unfair hopes to see some changes made to the jets in this regard.

Some fans are beginning to notice that weapons in Battlefield 3 seem to have much more recoil when burst fired, as opposed to full-auto, something that wasn’t entirely the case in Bad Company 2. First, Kertz reminds us that this isn’t a sequel to Bad Company 2 and that DICE’s base to work off of was Battlefield 2. This was also the reasoning behind bolt-action sniper rifles only being a one-shot-kill to the head. Howerver, Kertz confirmed that weapons in Battlefield 3 do, indeed, have more recoil when burst fired. What players need to remember is that once you overcome the initial kick of firing in full-auto, the weapon is fairly steady, though extremely inaccurate. When burst firing, you need to deal with that initial kick every time you pull the trigger, making it harder to keep steady. However, your shots will be much more accurate since the first bullet of each burst will always hit dead on.

Do you think this is a fair trade-off? What do you think about the tactical light’s range being nerfed? How do you feel about the balance between jets, helis and AA vehicles?

Battlefield 3: Hackers release crack that enables multiplayer without Origin

crack, battlefield 3, blog, bd3

Reports all over the interwebs say that a hacking group called Razor1911 had called EA‘s digital distribution service company Origin a “trojan” they claim they have released a crack for Battlefield 3 that allows it’s multiplayer to be accessed on PC without having to login through Origin itself.

The group, Razor1911, said in their statement: “Razor1911 doesn’t accept and support the online DRM “Origin” from EA.”

“This release is dedicated to our fans worldwide who bought this game on legal way and don’t want to install the trojan from Electronic Arts to play online.”

They conclude by declaring “EA Trojan – It’s in the game…ehm…It was in the game!”

Again, it’s hard not to question the effectiveness of DRM schemes when hackers are able to get round them within a week of release, but what is particularly disturbing here is that this crack appears to allow them to circumnavigate the entire Origin client – not something we’ve seen so far with Steam. This also opens up the worrying possibility of cheating via code manipulation becoming rife in the PC version – the kiss of death for a multiplayer-oriented game. Whatever your particular viewpoint on Origin, that is clearly a situation all Battlefield 3 players want to avoid.

Crazy stuff but bans will most likly be on the way for users that use this.

Battlefield 3: Server fixes currently being installed

battlefield, 3, blog, server, fixes

Battlefield has tweeted that Dice is updating the Battlefield 3 servers with some fixes. The Battlefield 3 Battlelog has a list of the new updates that are rolling out:

- Fix for crashes usually occurring during level switches. Server providers may see a little bit of memory leakage instead in this situation

- Game servers should no longer quit in some situations where the online backend servers are down. Server will reconnect to the backend once it’s up again

- Fix for ghost servers which didn’t accept connections

- Kick reasons should better match situations where they are issued. This will help battlelog provide more accurate information to the player

- Connection fixes to avoid players sometimes being rejected while joining the game server on one of the last slots

- Security updates

- Improved server logging

This is good news for those having trouble getting a game going. Just to let you know that this is a server update so you will not need to download any update for the game.

Battlefield 3: My tip on using the bolt action sniper rifle

SV98, sniper, battlefield 3, unlock, blog

Hey everyone, I came across this trick whist using the bolt action sniper rifle in Battlefield 3 and want to show you this neat trick I found.

When using a bolt action sniper, such as the SV98, I tend to use the 12x zoom. I hate always having to reload the bolt who does?. I found that once you shoot and double tap triangle, or Y, then it doesn't do the bolt reload..

Saves you time and gives you more ownage power in the battlefield.

Battlefield 3: The ultimate guide to Unlocking items

battlefield 3, blog, unlock, guide, weapons, upgrades, equipment

Well we all know that everyone wants to have better tools to dominate everybody. Obviously every player starts from zero and Rank Up to unlock better equipment, weapons and upgrades, which can make a big impact on the game.

The Battlefield 3 unlock system is diverse ranging from a basic assault rifle to a combat jet. There is plenty to unlock and upgrade and if you don’t have anything other than usual in your inventory, get ready to be pawned by the big daddies out there.

Same as many other games, you will earn XP for kills and objectives which then add to your overall rank. As your rank increases, you will unlock different weapons and gadgets.

Battlefield 3: Console server browser details

battlefield 3, blog

OMG! Only two days left in your life without Battlefield 3, or more days if your living outside the states. Either way, it’s almost here. For now, we have a look at the brand new server browser function on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Ok, when your in the multiplayer screen of Battlefield 3, you have three options; quick match, server browser, and leaderboards.

battlefield 3, server, shots, multiplayer

Inside the server browser option, you can between browse, friends, history, favorites and search. Within the list of servers, you will find the name, the number of max players, the map, the mode, it’s rank (?), and it’s ping. Along with joining, you have the option to refresh, and show filter.

battlefield 3, server, blog

In what seems to be the filter screen, it’s possible to specify max players, choose your mode, choose your map, choose your preset (this includes normal, hardcore, and infantry), choose whether the match will be ranked or not, and lastly, choose your region. The regions listed so far are Europe, West US, East US, South US, Japan, and Australia. You can also view running games from Official EA servers, and choose not to display full servers.

Battlefield 3: Day One Patch has been Confirmed

battlefield 3, blog, patch, download

Earlier this month, in an interview with Strategy Informer, Patrick Liu agreed that Battlefield 3 will “probably” have a day one patch, which “will include feedback from the beta”. Patrick Bach also suggested the possibility of having a patch on release day. He clarified to VG247, “we [DICE] will still have time to do, day one patches and changes to the Battlelog that will actually be game-changing.” Now, onto more concrete evidence. Microsoft’s Major Nelson publishes a weekly round-up of all the new content coming to the Xbox Live Marketplace. The preview Major Nelson publishes includes game releases, DLC, and avatar goodies. However, in this week’s update, under the avatar section, one item stood out, which is a “Battlefield 3 update” going live on 25th of October (same as the launch day of BF3 in North America). Last week, EA published Battlefield 3 avatars, but it’s not common for avatars to get updated, let alone on the release date of the respective title. This leaves us with the day one patch for Battlefield 3. We speculate that this will also be the case for all other platforms.

Battlefield 3: Unlockable Camouflage pictures released

camo, battlefield
battlefield,camo,blog
It is confirmed that Battlefield 3 will feature 12 sets of unlockable camo for your player, Fredrik Thylander (DICE Senior Designer) revealed this great news for us and we already know about the SPECACT camo set, which is a pre-order bonus for people who pre-order from Best Buy (in North America). But it is unknown if the SPECACT camo will become one of these unlockable sets?

This would also explain the appearance option that was spotted in a gameplay video earlier this week

Battlefield 3: Appearance customization option pics leaked

When they were changing their load out it shows us something that we haven't seen before. In the bottom right there is a 4th option and it says "Appearance". People are thinking this might be for different camo's you unlock as you go through the Multiplayer. We are not for sure on this but Im sure that DICE will speak up about it pretty soon. For now this is all we have. Hope you enjoy.

Battlefield 3:Online pass is confirmed for players

Dice have confirmed that all used copies of Battlefield 3 games will have a online pass to use to go online and play on the Battlefield with your fellow Comrades.
To be honest this move by EA is not a surprise since the publisher has been pushing this system in one form or another in many of its games.

Today, Alan Kertz, DICE’s Core Gameplay Designer, was asked by a fan, “do you need to buy a new battlefield 3 to play xbox live?” Alan responded ”You can also purchase an online pass for a used copy.” It’s worth noting that Battlefield Bad Company 2 had a “VIP” pass, which gives players full access to all maps. Second hand buyers have to buy the VIP pass to have access to all maps. We still don’t know if the new online pass for Battlefield 3 will lock out some maps, or if it is a traditional online pass. Traditional online passes require player who have purchased a used copy of the games to pay about $10 to have online access.

After analyzing the data from our first round of closed Caspian Border tests, we have great news for participants in the Battlefield 3 PC Open Beta: the DICE team has decided to bring back Caspian Border for the beta’s final weekend and conduct an open large scale test of the 64 player Caspian Border map.

*****Please keep in mind that as this is beta we will be stress testing our servers***** As such, users may experience crashes, network instability and outages as we roll out and configure servers and network utilities. Understand that such potential issues and the testing environment are not reflective or indicative of the final product and that, through your participation, you will be helping to ensure future stability and functionality.

As we are again specifically testing 64-player server configurations, this test will be for PC only. The Caspian Border servers will be available for all PC players to join. Caspian Border will be available starting Friday, October 7th, in the afternoon (CET).

How great is that? So exciting!

Battlefield 3: Bans are on the way for cheaters who are playing the beta

As cheaters try to damage the game's server infrastructure in beta, DICE will have a good idea of how to prepare themselves for the final release of the game. In other words, it's a "What will those assholes do?" preventative fact finding mission.

It should be known that the Battlefield 3 Open Beta runs without any anti-cheating countermeasures whatsoever, with Punkbuster disabled in its entirety. DICE has explained that the reason for this is to monitor what players do in the beta, which includes behaving like 12 year old MW2 challenge lobby noobs.

Posting on the Battlefield forums, community manager Ian "crash7801" Tornay created an official thread for players to lodge their complaints against the cheaters in the meantime.

Those who are suspected of foul play should be reported in the thread with their usernames and links to their Battlelog profiles. DICE will look into it, and—as crash7801 notes—"The hammer will fall swiftly and accurately."

Battlefield 3: How to unlock the M1911 Pistol to use in-game

battlefield 3 gaming news
This guide is for showing you how to get some exclusive Medal of Honor unlocks, 20% off Battlefield Bad Company 2, and how to get the M1911 Pistol for Battlefield 3 on DAY ONE (Launch day, October 25th, 2011).

There are two ways to get this weapon unlock.
1.) Be a Battlefield Veteran
2.) Sign up for the Gun Club (That's what im showing you here today)

To get this is actually quite simple, and is highly recommended that you do so, as to obtain further unlocks from the Gun Club.

Go to gunclub.ea.com
Sign in with your EA/origin Account
You're done. See wasn't that simple?

By doing this, not only do you get the M1911 pistol to use on day one of Battlefield 3, under the My Gun Club tab in the Nav bar, if you click rewards, depending on your past EA game experience, you'll also get a host of other things, for other EA shooters such as BFBC2, BFBC, MOH, etc.

You will also get to use it right now in the Beta. Both versions, silencer and unsilenced.

How cool is that?

My review on Battlefield 3 Beta

battlefield 3 gaming news

Many people who are enjoying the beta or playing for fun have no vitriolic reason to go to the BF3 forums. Perhaps they’ve visited once or twice to find out if the servers are down for maintenance or if Caspian Border will be making an appearance on their console of choice.

Then you get threads that completely miss the mark and just blindly hate on an unreleased game. You want DICE to kill the game because flashlights are extra effective? Relax, breathe, and try again.

Of course, there are also proper threads with proper arguments and outlined reasoning on why a feature’s inclusion (or lack thereof) is harmful or dissatisfactory to the game experience. For example, the full release will probably see some sort of revamp to the squadding functionality. DICE and EA have probably seen the myriad of threads on that issue. People want to play with their friends. Let’s call them out on it, because this is a major oversight.

Sometimes you’ll find threads that point out flaws about a certain gameplay decisions (e.g. sniper glare). These go back and forth then someone eventually comes up with a “this feature isn’t implemented realistically” argument. The popular retort is that “Battlefield 3 is a game and not real” then we land in a situation where names are called and the general forum public prepares some popcorn and enjoys the show.

We can’t really measure everyone’s true feelings about the beta even if there was a simple one question survey at the end of each match asking the players if they enjoyed the experience or not. Teams that get stomped would vote with a resounding ‘Hell No’.

It has become something of a pastime lately. I sit on my computer for a couple hours longer than usual. I scan for anything interesting and I click when a promising target appears. Seconds later, he’s killed and lies unchanging as others appear nearby, carrying the torch for their fallen brother.

Many gamers have been logging hour after hour into the Battlefield 3 beta since it has opened. There have been technical issues as well as modded server issues and a general cloud of discontent over one of the biggest releases of the year. It has definitely been an experience of sorts.

Is it all that bad, though? I really don’t have anything too negative to say about it. I’ve enjoyed the preview opportunity that we’ve all been given.

I believe that a lot of this bad blood stems from the vocal minority that gets upset and immediately heads to the forums to vent with their arms flailing dramatically. Here are a few things that have helped me have fun in my beta experience.

This goes without saying but EA and DICE even felt that people needed to be reminded. This build that we’re all playing is a beta build and stands on shaky legs. It looks great (in my opinion) but it still has plenty of bugs, a lot of which have fixes on the way.

I’ve had my share of random framerate drops along with the most annoying clipping issues I’ve ever seen. But, I’m confident that an important franchise like Battlefield will get the tweaking and care that it needs to fulfill everyone’s AAA expectations.

How to Survive on Battlefield 3 Beta

battlefield 3 gaming news

Betas are a wonderful thing. They place everyone on a level playing field and give you the best chance to develop your skills in-line with the opposition.

However, you still don’t want to suck. A poor performance in the beta won’t get your Battlefield 3 career off to a good start, even if it’s only a trial version. To help, we’ve compiled a list of handy tips that should see you successfully survive the Battlefield 3 beta with your reputation intact, especially for those of you heading to Battlefield for the first time.

Teamwork, teamwork, teamwork!

All online first person shooters have some semblance of teamwork, but most of them don’t punish you for totally ignoring your allies. That’s where Battlefield is different. This is a team based game, and if that doesn’t suit you, it will become immediately apparent that this isn’t the game for you. Battlefield 3 is all about strengths in numbers. If you want to survive, to contribute and to win, work as a unified unit.

Practice with future teammates

Teamwork is best achieved if you know who you’re playing with. You don’t dominate a local sporting competition by playing with a bunch of different dudes every week, and Battlefield 3 is no different. You’re best off playing with your gaming friends and learning how they play. You’ll quickly develop a niche in the squad and grow to know what your teammate’s next move is before they’ve even re-spawned.

Don’t run and gun, this isn’t COD!

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3 will both be fantastic games; however, they will be very different games. Battlefield is on the rise, and will attract a number of “COD Gamers” due to its hefty increase in status. That’s great for the franchise, but not so good for the Battlefield veterans who have grown to despise the Activision alternative. The onus is on you, COD gamers, to ensure you adapt to Battlefield 3. It’s totally different. You can’t just run around shooting people, that won’t work and it won’t help your team. Stick to your role, go in with an open mind and be willing to re-learn everything you think you know about online shooters (but keep it in the back of your mind for MW3, where the BF3 tactics become moot).

Pick your class carefully

Pick your class carefully. Ensure it’s what you want to do, what the team needs and that you know what’s required. Also be aware that they’ve changed slightly since Bad Company 2, most noticeably by giving the Assault Class medic abilities. Once again it all comes down to teamwork. Don’t run past fallen enemies, secure the perimeter and revive them whenever possible. Likewise don’t attempt something that is clearly beyond your limitations. Work together, with your team, to find the best man for the job, freeing you up to dominate your role. Know what your special abilities are: Assault can hand out med kits, Engineers can repair vehicles, and Support can hand out ammo.

Remember this is a beta

Remember this is just a beta. There will be glitches, there will be limitations and everybody is fairly new to this. Heaps of people will be playing Battlefield for the first time, and even if you’ve migrated from a previous title, your skills might be a little rusty. Aim to improve, but treat it as a practice run. Don’t get too angry with teammates who don’t quite understand Battlefield etiquette, as a beta is as much of a learning curve for the players, as it is the developer.

Battlefield 3 Open Beta Now Open To All

battlefield 3 gaming news

From today, the Battlefield 3 Open Beta is open to everyone and continues until October 10th! You can find the download instructions for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC below. For PlayStation 3 users in North America, expect the Open Beta to be downloadable later today, once Sony completes their weekly update.

Played on the Operation Métro map in Rush mode that won us Best Action Game and Best Multiplayer Game at E3, this is your chance to experience one of many flavors of Battlefield 3.

Make sure to head to the free social platform Battlelog to check your in-depth stats progression, start your own Platoon, and see how your friends are doing in the news feed. To get you started on the Operation Métro map, here are some playing tips straight from DICE.

You can also leave any feedback to DICE via the forums in the social platform Battlelog. Remember that this software is in Beta and does not represent final quality. For a full FAQ on the Open Beta, head here.
DICE’S Top 10 Battlefield 3 Operation Metro Tips

  • Stick to your team mates, and remember to spawn on them to stay close to the fight.Use your kit specific abilities to help your team mates. Assault can hand out med kits, Engineers can repair vehicles, and Support can hand out ammo.
  • Make sure when you have armed an M-COM station, that you defend it to make sure it is destroyed.
  • The bombed-out tunnel section in Operation Métro is an excellent place to use a flashlight as one of your weapon attachments. Use it to light the tunnels up – and to blind your enemies.
  • Attach bipods to your weapon and deploy it automatically by pushing up against cover or going prone and zooming in – this gives you a huge increase in accuracy and stability.
  • Use suppressive shooting (fire close to enemies behind cover) to negatively effect the enemy’s fighting capabilities.
  • Watch out for falling debris as this can hurt you. But you can also hurt your enemies by taking out buildings with the Engineer’s RPG.
  • Shotguns are excellent for CQC (Close Quarters Combat) in the tighter tunnels sections.
  • Fire automatic weapons in short bursts for accuracy, or switch to single fire mode if applicable.
  • To grab your enemy’s dog tag as a souvenir, do a stealth knife kill from behind.

Battlefield 3: Massive Map Sizes and More On Sound Design

battlefield 3 gaming news

If I were to ask you what’s one thing that was done really well in Battlefield: Bad Company 2, I think many would agree that the in-game audio really stood out. I’m sure many fans are excited to see what kind of improvements they’ve made in Battlefield 3. Check out one of our earlier posts on sound design and soundtracks in Battlefield 3.

Tomas Danko, VO Producer at DICE, has revealed some interesting audio facts about Battlefield 3 on Twitter recently, as well as some info regarding map sizes.

We’ve all seen the tyrannosaurus BF3 pictures circling the internet. One fan suggested to Mr. Danko that it would be rather funny to make a mock VO for it anyways. Interestingly enough, Danko responded to him saying, “Who said there is no t-rex audio in BF3?” What does this mean exactly? We don’t know. But we will make sure to let our readers know at the first sign of any Tyrannosaurus Warfare DLC pack! This fan also asked exactly how many lines of VO are in Battlefield 3, to which Danko responded, “In total around 18 000 wave files of VO, not counting localized languages.”

Bad Company 2 has been known for their intense, and sometimes hilarious VO lines that can be heard during the heat of battle. One fan commented on this subject, asking if soldiers would still be screaming insults every time they knived a door or a fence down. He also added that he though it really added to the immersion of the game. Danko answered, “Never any VO when knifing to begin with.” This could perhaps come as sightly bad news to many, but DICE could have felt that insults did not have any place in Battlefield 3.

Lastly, Danko was also asked about map sizes, specifically, whether or not any maps would be bigger than 2,000 square meters. Danko confidently responded, “How about more than twice that size…”

DICE seems to be hard at work at every aspect of Battlefield 3, including the audio. I hope you’ve all upgraded your sound system just as much as you’re PC or TV.

Battlefield 3 update: Squad leaders can call in artillery strikes

battlefield 3 gaming news

You may remeber that Artillery strikes were last seen in 2006′s Battlefield 2142, where the Commander could call in an artillery strike anywhere on the map. Since there’s no Commander in Battlefield 3, DICE has instead trickled down many of the Commander features to the regular soldier: the UAV is now available to everyone (if UAV stations return), and there will be an unlockable UAV for the Engineer class.

Not only that, according to DICE’s Karl-Magnus Troedsson at the recent Eurogamer Expo, squad leader will have the ability to call in artillery strikes. This is in addition to the unlockable mortar strike, which is available to everyone playing the Engineer class.
While we were disappointed with the lack of a Commander in Battlefield 3, it’s good to see DICE keep many of the assets and spread them out to the squad level.

Battlefield 3 More info: Burst Firing, Weapons, Friendly Fire and More

battlefield 3 gaming news

  • On the topic of friendly fire: “Friendly Fire misunderstanding: FF is Off by default, On by default in Hardcore. Server option as well. Spread the word.”
  • When asked to confirm there’s no “Dragons Breath” ammo for shotguns: “Yeah. And no bottle rockets. Both have similar effectiveness.”
  • When asked if the SU-39′s cannon will have different balance/stats due to it being powered by gas-blowback (versus electricity for the GAU): “Given it fires 3000rpm and actually has less spin up than the GAU, they are very similar in game and life.”
  • When asked if burst firing would be harder in Battlefield 3: “Tap firing has a larger recoil than the same rounds fired in full auto actually.” He then followed up with: “If you tap fired as fast as full auto the spread would’ve the same. Control recoil and pace your rounds it’s better.”
  • When asked about the M1911 pistol, and who gets access to it: “The M1911 is available to both Gun Club [members] and Veterans, however there are additional Veteran bonuses.”
  • When asked about Medal of Honor Limited Edition owners and the Battlefield 3 beta keys they should be receiving: “You don’t need a key, if your EA account is entitled to MOH LE then you get the beta access automatically early.”
  • When asked about the under-barrel grenade launcher and its one-hit kill shots: “Much smaller splash, minimum arm timer, and only direct.”
  • When asked about DICE’s support for the game once it’s released: “We’ve planned updates and additional content support, plus there is always other projects…”

Battlefield 3 Beta Released!

battlefield 3 gaming news

DICE has officially announced the Open Battlefield 3 Beta to begin on September Medal of Honor owners and Origin pre-orders will have a 48 headstart. View more details here!
http://www.battlefield.com/battlefield3/1/beta
I cannot wait any longer for the Battlefield 3 Beta, and DICE has just hinted at a big announcement coming tomorrow.

After weeks of denying many beta rumors, DICE has stirred up the pot with 3 hints. On the official Italian Battlefield page, DICE teased “guys, tomorrow follow us, there is news about something you have been waiting for a long time.“ However, the teasing didn’t stop there. Dainel Matros, Battlefield’s global community manager, tweeted “this week is going to be off the hook BF3″, and his coworker, David Goldfarb, reassured that this week is “gonna be a great week. BF3″.

My guess is that the long-awaited Beta will go live tomorrow or will be announced tomorrow to go live next week.

If you were wondering whether you’re going to get a taste of the singleplayer in the upcoming beta, DICE’s Ian Tornay re-clarified “BF3 beta is multipalyer only. There are some rumors to the contrary circulating.”
So, there you have folks, now at least we have something to cling on, tomorrow should be the big day we’ve been dreaming about.
Make sure to follow @MPFirst on Twitter for all your Battlefield desires and also to get some gaming sessions going with MP1st’s readers and editors once the beta is up!

What do you think tomorrow’s announcement will be?

Battlefield 3 Beta Running on Xbox 360

battlefield 3 gaming news
An EA employee from the UK posted on his personal twitter account a picture of the Battlefield 3 beta running on Xbox 360. His twitter account has since been deleted, but the yfrog account still has the picture and comments. This might suggest that the Battlefield 3 beta has been approved by Microsoft and awaiting release. The Xbox 360 in the picture does not appear to be a dev kit.

Update: Community Manager, Daniel 'zh1nt0' Matros tweeted that the image was real, then reverted it and said it was fake. So we'll let you decide what to think.

Battlefield 3 Hands-On Preview (Gamescon 2011)

battlefield 3 gaming news

Battlefield 3 already has plenty of hardcore fans, and the game hasn't even come out yet. At E3 earlier this year, lines stretched as long as four hours to get some brief hands-on time with the multiplayer. However, that's nothing compared to gamescom, which is open to the general public, where lines were up to nine hours long in order to play the game for about 15 minutes. Now that, my friends, is ridiculous. But not nearly as ridiculous as one of the guys I met who waited in line for hours to be one of the first in the gamescom doors on Friday, where he ran directly to BF3, played it, and then left and got right back into an eight hour line for the same game. That's an insane level of dedication for a game that comes out in the couple of months

I'll recreate the experience for you right here, as we also had to venture down to the show floor at gamescom to get our Battlefield on. First, you had to sit through a 15 minute presentation that was entirely in German, which you can't really fault EA for since the conference takes place in Germany. And, as a victim of the American education system, I don't speak German. But, I was sort of able to pull from context and understand most of the video. Which seemed to be "Find the enemy and kill them."

There were brief rundowns of the class changes, which we detailed in our E3 Battlefield 3 hands-on preview, and I made the decision there and then to be the Assault class, now armed with a defibrillator so I could bring my downed buddies back to life, while charging forward and taking care of enemy soldiers. At least, that was my noble idea. Things didn't exactly go according to plan, which ended up costing me dearly.

As we finished up the film and filed into the gaming area (all on PCs, by the way), I studied the game card and wished fervently for a gamepad, which is how I experience things on the PC back at E3. But, I had to get used to the mouse and keyboard all over again at some point, and this seemed as good a time as any to dive back in. Unfortunately, the instruction card was in German as well, so strike two for our public schools. "Was ist eine button for to make kill guy?" doesn't really cut it, internationally.

We spawned onto the enormous 64 player Caspian Border map, with all of us splitting into one of two 32 player teams. As with any multiplayer match of Battlefield, everyone immediately scrambles for the airborne vehicles, and the hotly contested jet usually lasted about .025 milliseconds on the landing strip before someone jumped in it and zoomed into the skies above. While this map is extremely large, it still seems as though it's not entirely jet-friendly. ZOOM, turn around, ZOOM turn around. ZOOM, turn around, and so on. As much as I wanted to get into a jet to try this out, I gritted my teeth and climbed into a tank, which actually turned out to be a good decision.

I lasted about ten minutes inside that tank, taking occasional damage while being patched up by passing Engineers, and I managed to take out 12 enemy soldiers while taking and re-taking three different bases. But finally I heard the familiar WHOOP, WHOOP which translates to "Your tank is about to blow up, idiot" and I had to bail. Once I was on foot, I kept getting owned by enemy snipers. As in seriously owned. The game will totally rub that in your face by zooming off to the smug, sunglass-ed face of the soldier who did it, and you couldn't help but hate them.

Once the match was over (we lost), I had a strong desire to step back through and play it again, but the last thing I wanted to do was displace someone that had waited for nine hours to get in here and experience the game. Battlefield 3 stands as one of the most graphically intense, realistic shooters out there, and playing 32 players vs. another 32 provides an unequaled gaming experience. If you can manage to round up 31 friends to go online with you, you're going to have a complete blast once you figure out who's in command. And even if you play solo, you're going to wish BF3 was permanently installed in your game system.

PS3 version of Battlefield 3 may be better than Xbox 360 version?

battlefield 3 gaming news

It looks PS3 owners would be getting a better looking port of Battlefield 3 than Xbox 360 owners will be entitled to. This isn’t because DICE wants to discriminate but because of the fact that the PS3 version of Battlefield 3 will support SPU-based deffered shading whereas the Xbox 360 version will only have tiled-based deferred shading.

DICE cites the reason as being the Xbox 360 not having SPUs, however it appears this will provide a better experience for PS3 owners as it’ll enable them to produce better visuals as having the ability to use the SPU+GPU together “raises the bar.” This also enables to offload some of the SPU’s work to the GPU, providing them with more space to create better looking shaders and environments.

Although, DICE says they’ll be able to use some of 360′s CPU power to offload its GPU’s work to an extent, it still wouldn’t provide them with the same level of freedom that having a dedicated SPU-based deffered system will for the PS3.

Battlefield 3 will have 3 times as much DLC as Bad Company 2

battlefield 3 gaming news

Battlefield 3 DLC
During the hectic time here at E3, EA decided to skip the show for one announcement: during an investors call, EA announced that the upcoming Battlefield 3 will have “three times as much DLC as Bad Company 2″. Bad Company 2 itself had 7 downloadable content packs, ranging from small updates which included new maps and game modes, to large updates like the Vietnam DLC, which offered a whole new setting, weapons and vehicles.

The first DLC for Battlefield 3 will be Back To Karkand, which has already been announced and will be offered for free to those who pre-order the game. Everyone else will have a chance to buy it approximately one month after BF3′s release (rumored to cost $10). Battlefield 3 ships on October 25 on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Battlefield 3 Online Pass or VIP Pass?

Battlefield VIP

The Internet started to buzz earlier this week with talk about an online pass required for Battlefield 3. But is the required pass an online pass or something different?

Battlefield 3 Executive Producer Patrick Bach made the statement that players would probably need to register a code included in the box to access the game’s multiplayer, but he did not believe it was the online pass.

I think it’s our backend. I’m not sure I want to call our system an online pass.

Is the not so-called Online Pass something like a VIP Pass?

When Battlefield: Bad Company 2 released all new copies included a VIP Code. This VIP Code entitled gamers to upcoming downloadable maps at no additional cost. The VIP Code included a number of “free maps packs,” but it wasn’t an online pass required for multiplayer access.

Our guess is that Battlefield 3 will have something similar to the VIP Code then to the online pass maybe called, “VIP Pass.” Yes the VIP Pass would be required for multiplayer access, but it could include more maps at no additional cost.

Some articles have made the claim that EA has handed Modern Warfare 3 the victory based on the online pass requirement. Not sure how Modern Warfare 3 will gain the upper hand based on the pass code requirement.

And I don’t see that upper hand happening if Battlefield 3 comes with a similar VIP Code that Battlefield: Bad Company 2 had. Modern Warfare titles require you to purchase map packs at 15 dollars each.

Who will have the upper hand if the VIP Pass speculation is true?

Top 5 Features: Battlefield 3

The next entry in my Top 5 Features series of articles is Battlefield 3, which will be competing later this year for the top shooter crown against Modern Warfare 3. Battlefield 3 and Modern Warfare 3 are both first person shooters that pit you against the Russian military and while they do offer similar features such as multiplayer and co-op, they offer them in different ways. While this article focuses on Battlefield 3, the next entry will focus on its opponent Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 so stay tuned for that one in a couple of days. So here is my opinion on what I believe are the top 5 features of Battlefield 3.

1. More Realistic Approach To War

While Battlefield 3 is not a war simulator, it does pride itself in being as close to the real deal as possible without crossing that line. The weapons are highly detailed, the animations are smooth and from the level viewed in the 12 minute reveal trailer the squad interactions in the single player are similar to how a squad would actually act on the battlefield. These animations and squad interactions were brought into multiplayer as well in order to give the online community a reason to work together in order to bring down the enemy troops. It will be nice to see people online working together instead of going lone wolf status like most Call of Duty players do.

battlefield 3 gaming news

2. Co-Op

Battlefield 3 is taking a different approach to cooperative play than Modern Warfare 3 is. Battlefield 2 had co-op only accessible through modding the game while Bad Company 2 had Onslaught mode which was released as DLC after the game was released. Battlefield 3 will come with an entire side campaign for co-op play that spans across 10 different levels. This is much different from Modern Warfare 3′s newly announced survival mode which has you and a friend surviving wave after wave of enemies. Hopefully with the details to be released on Battlefield 3′s co-op mode at GamesCon we can get a sense of what we will be facing once the full retail game ships in October. It will be nice to have a third option besides just single player and online play in case you and a friend want to team up to tackle the game’s co-op missions.

3. Improved Multiplayer

Battlefield 3 has looked to make vast improvements to its multiplayer components compared to Battlefield 2 and Bad Company 2. With the Assault class now taking up the mantle of medic and Support class actually being more for support now it will completely change the way the game is played online. The Recon class is also suppose to receive some new gadgets and items that will help them be more team oriented rather than the lone wolf types mentioned earlier that would rather just play for their K/D ratio than help the team with their objective. I can not count how many times I witnessed a squad of nothing but snipers in Bad Company 2 doing nothing but grouping together in one spot and camping. Thankfully the added scope glint and sway may detract them from staying in one spot for too long for fear of getting picked off from a support gunner.

4. Emotion In Single Player

The mission from E3 2011 explained everything about how gripping the story will be in the opening scene. A man holding a toy dinosaur from his son while hearing the voices of his children is told not to worry, he will see his kids soon. A member of your squad is shpt and you have to drag his wounded body into a garage to keep him safe. Its moments like these where the player is put right into the emotion the scene in front of them is trying to portray. It was even said in an interview that the campaign will be extremely emotional and reach out to the player. It will be nice to see a first person shooter with a story that has the ability to bring the emotions of war right into the players hands.

5. Frostbite 2 Engine

The new Frostbite engine allows DICE to improve upon the destruction aspects as well as the animations and graphics in Battlefield 3. Being able to blow a giant hole in a building or take it down completely all packaged together with realistic damage and physics for the crumbling building makes the destruction that much more sweet. The animations, from reloading your weapon to sprinting and going prone, are all made as smooth as possible than ks to the updated engine. It will be great to see the extent of the capabilities it holds once the game ships out on October 25 for the PC, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.
